Finch is one of the best-loved self-care apps on iOS, built around a pet that grows as you look after yourself. absorvia has no character, no goals and no rewards. The two suit very different people.
Product names belong to their owners. Descriptions of other apps are based on their public App Store materials in September 2026 and may have changed. Check the current listing before deciding.
What Finch is for
Finch presents itself as a self-care companion. You set small daily goals, check them off, and a bird grows and explores as a result. Reflection questions and mood check-ins sit alongside the goals.
The design is warm and the encouragement is the point. If motivation is what you are short of, that structure does real work.
What absorvia is for
absorvia has nothing to look after. You write a thought and receive one line back. Nothing grows, nothing is waiting for you, and missing a week costs you nothing.
The value is in the reading. Over weeks, Undercurrent surfaces what you keep circling, drawn from your own words rather than from a checklist.
Where they differ
- Motivation: Finch uses a companion and progress. absorvia uses none.
- Structure: Finch offers goals and check-ins. absorvia offers a blank line and a reply.
- Tone: Finch is warm and encouraging. absorvia is plain and does not cheer you on.
- What is read back: Finch tracks what you completed. absorvia reads what you wrote.
- Streaks: Finch builds continuity into the design. absorvia has no streaks at all.
Who should pick which
Pick Finch if a companion and gentle structure are what get you to show up. Pick absorvia if structure is the thing that has always made you quit, and you want the writing read rather than the habit tracked.
Privacy and cost
Your thought library stays on your device. Optional iCloud backup, off by default, keeps a copy in your own iCloud that absorvia cannot read. No absorvia account is required. AI reflections are opt-in. With your permission, relevant writing and context are sent to our backend and, when needed, to OpenAI. A request can include excerpts from more than one capture. This text is not used to train OpenAI's models. Switch AI Reflections off in Settings to stop future AI requests. Temporary service records are explained in the privacy policy.
absorvia is free to start. The free plan includes up to five saved thoughts per day and basic writing patterns. Premium includes up to 100 saved thoughts per day, voice capture, daily depth, deeper pattern surfacing and Sit With It. Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically. Eligible subscribers can try the annual plan free for 7 days. Current prices and eligibility are shown at purchase. AI reflections require your permission and an internet connection. The free plan includes up to three AI reflections in a rolling seven-day period. A reflection is an optional written response to a thought; the on-device thought category and orb colour do not require one. Premium includes further access subject to fair-use limits. You can keep writing within your plan’s capture allowance when reflections are unavailable.
Questions
Does absorvia have a character or mascot?
No. There is nothing to care for and nothing that reacts to your absence. The only response you get is a line about what you wrote.
Are there streaks or reminders?
No streaks. absorvia does not send notifications you did not ask for, and a missed week has no consequence.
Is absorvia a self-care app?
No. It does not set goals, track habits, or make wellbeing claims. It reflects thoughts you write and shows patterns across them.
Can I use both?
Yes. They solve different problems. One builds a routine, the other reads your thinking.
Try it. Write one thought and see what comes back.
