Search for an AI journaling app and you will find two shapes: a journal with prompts written by a model, or a chat window that asks how you feel.
absorvia is a third shape. It does not prompt and it does not converse. You write, it reflects one line, and over time it shows the patterns beneath your writing.
What AI journaling apps do
Most add a layer of generated text to the journaling habit. Daily prompts to get you writing, mood tags, and a summary or pep talk at the end. Some turn the journal into a conversation, with follow-up questions after every entry.
That works for some people. It also turns a two-minute thought into a ten-minute exchange, and the words on the screen are mostly not yours.
What absorvia does instead
One reflection per thought, called an Echo. It is a single line, not a paragraph. It shows the part of your own thought you had not quite heard yourself say. You can take it or leave it.
Nothing asks you a question. Nothing waits for a reply. The words on the screen stay overwhelmingly yours.
- Fewer words, more weight. One line, then silence.
- No prompts. You write when something is circling, not when a notification says so.
- No chat. There is nothing to keep up with.
The layer conversation cannot give you
A chat lives inside one entry. absorvia's Undercurrent reads across all of them. From day one it tracks deterministic signals, the things you keep returning to. From around day fourteen it begins deeper reads, surfacing tensions and shifts in how you think.
Today's Pulse gives you one sentence per day that synthesises yesterday. Not a report. A read.
Where your words go
Your thought library stays on your iPhone. There is no account and no cloud copy. Reflection is off until you turn it on. When it is on, only the thought you choose is sent to the absorvia server and to OpenAI, and that text is not used to train OpenAI's models. You can switch it off any time in Settings.
Compare this with any app that requires an account before you can write. If the entries live on a server, ask what the server does with them.
Cost
absorvia is free to start. Capture and organise without paying. Premium unlocks daily depth, deeper pattern surfacing, and Sit With It. It is a monthly or annual subscription. The annual plan begins with a 14-day free trial. Prices are shown in the app and on the App Store page.
Questions
Is absorvia an AI journaling app?
No. It uses a model to generate reflections, but there are no prompts, no conversation, and no mood tracking. You write a thought and receive one line. Patterns surface across weeks.
Does absorvia use AI at all?
Yes, when you turn reflection on. Echoes and deeper pattern reads are generated with OpenAI models via the absorvia server. Reflection is off by default and only the thought you choose is sent.
Will it ask me how I feel?
No. absorvia never prompts. You write when a thought is circling. It reads what you wrote, not how you rated your day.
Is this therapy or a wellness app?
Neither. absorvia does not diagnose, treat, or replace clinical care. If you are struggling, talk to a professional you trust.
Try it. Write one thought and see what comes back.
